Limitations of This Project and Our Research

For this project on Afro-descendants in Uruguay and Argentina, we have only had a few months to do our research and produce our final project and presentation. If you are familiar with this topic, you will already know that we have had barely enough time to scratch the surface in our research. You will also already know that the sources on this topic are quite scattered, as only a few academic sources have compiled thorough research on the topics. This has made our research all the more difficult, as often new sources we come across are using the same main sources we have already found. We have been as thorough as possible with the time allowed, however there is much more we wish we had the opportunity to research.

If you are unfamiliar with this topic, please note that academic interest in these subjects, particularly within Uruguay and Argentina themselves, is relatively recent. This means there are often gaps in the information available, or only one or two reliable sources. It must always be taken into account that ultimately, the researchers and authors of the most commonly used sources (in our case, and it would appear, the case of many others on this topic, Andrews and Rout, Frigerio, and Lewis), become the ones who attempt to fill in these gaps, and thus we can not always be certain that the information is accurate or complete.

We have done our best to be as sensitive to this topic as possible. However, we are aware that our subject matter is very personal to each person reading this, and that each person has had different experiences throughout their life with racism and discrimination. Considering the limitations of our research, if you see any inaccuracies or inconsistencies, or find our terminology to be used incorrectly, please let us know at africaenlasamericas@gmail.com so we can fill in the gaps or amend our mistake.

With all of this in mind, please know we have done our best with the time and resources available to us, and we hope you understand the limitations in our research.
