Why is this Section Concentrated on Buenos Aires?

Our work in this section is concentrated on Buenos Aires, but we do not want to negate or ignore the existence of Africans and Afro-descendants in Argentina outside of Buenos Aires. There are several reasons why we have decided to focus on this region of the country. Firstly, the population of Afro-descendants in the province of Buenos Aires, including Gran Buenos Aires and Buenos Aires City, adds up to almost 50% of the total Afro-descendant population in Argentina (ā€œCenso Nacional De Población, Hogares Y Viviendas 2010ā€ 2012, 297). There might be regions where the ratio of Afro-descendants to other ethnicities and whites might be higher, but the significance of the Afro-Argentine population in Buenos Aires in numbers, and the consequential opportunities for organization and action-taking are unquestionably worth evaluating. Further, the limited amount of literature and sources available to us constrict the overall extent of our work. When first researching Afro-descendants in Argentina we had to realize that research in the area is very limited and many studies lead back to the same sources, the majority of which focus on Buenos Aires.
